Sapphire HD4870 with 2GB GDDR5
Several video card manufacturers have begin increasing the amount of memory on their existing cards. Some of the time this can result in better performance. According to news.ati-forum.de, it looks like Sapphire has increased the memory for its Sapphire HD4870 from 512MB to 1GB and now to 2GB GDDR5.
Apparently it is Sapphire’s reference design that will get this treatment and it will cost about 30 Euros more than the 1GB versions.
Will this result in another significant speed increase? That is doubtful but you will probably be able to use some higher quality AA, bigger textures or even better shadow mapping in demanding new games such as Crysis or Clear Sky. As yet, we have no word on U.S. availability or pricing at this time, but we’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available to us.

Looks great!!
I think that 1GB cards will gradually become the norm, just as how 512MB cards are now. When that happens, 2GB cards like these will really hit the spotlight as the cards to get. They will be viewed just as how the current 1GB cards are.
Should help games such as Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3 as well, at least when using high AA at high resolutions. To what extent though is the question. That and it should help with multiGPU scaling I would think.
