Seagate 7200.12 1 TB Hard Drive Review
Video Muxing Test
This test represents the scenario where you may need to combine two separate video files or combine various audio and video streams to form one video file. The people who do a lot of video encoding go through this often in their day to day computing.
The videos used here are various trailers obtained from Divx7 Showcase page and “Just HD” section of Apple’s trailers webpage. Seven 1080p Full-HD video files were used in this test. The list along with size is shown below.
The software used for this purpose is called MKVToolnix. MKVToolnix is a set of tools to create, alter and inspect Matroska (.mkv) files under Linux, other Unices and Windows. Version 2.9.7 was used for this purpose. MKVToolnix can be downloaded from here. The interface is pretty straight-forward; just drag the input streams to the input file box, set the file name and other tags if you want and click “Start Muxing”.
The Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 drive ends up faster in this test too, but the difference again is negligible. It is still interesting to compare it with the WD 2500AAKS as it is a reminder of how much speed hard drives have gained within the past 4-5 years.
