The EVGA GTX 660 Superclocked edition arrives
Performance summary charts & graphs
Here are the summary charts of 24 modern PC games and 3 synthetic tests. The highest settings are generally chosen and it is DX11 when there is a choice; DX10 is picked above DX9, and the settings are generally ultra or maxed unless specified on the chart. Specific settings are listed on the Main Performance chart. The benches are run at 1920×1200 and 1680×1050.
Main Overall Summary chart
In the first column of the main performance summary chart, the HD 7850 is tested at AMD’s reference clocks and also factory overclocked (column 3). In between (3) is a stock GTX 660 while column 4 is a Galaxy GTX 660 at its factory overclock. Column 5 is a EVGA GTX 660 at EVGA clocks while in column 6 is the EVGA 660 clocked as high as we could go on stock voltage and fan profile. In the last column, the reference GTX 660 Ti is featured. Notice how the clocks are progressivly increased – first the core is increased, then the memory, followed by another memory and core increase. Scaling is very good.
(Far Cry 2 does not run properly on Catalyst 12-8 so the HD 7850 was tested using Catalyst 12-4*).
This is the master chart and although it has not been made into a graph as there is too much information to put onto a single graph.
The EVGA GTX 660 Superclocked when overclocked further performs much closer to its big brother the GTX 660 Ti than the stock or GC clocked GTX 660. It is interesting to see that performance scaling in some games is more dependent on memory scaling while most others prefer a core speed increase or a combination of both memory and core overclocks.
It is a blow-out comparing even the factory overclocked HD 7850 (1000/5000MHz) with the stock GTX 660, never mind faster clocked 660s. In only four out of 24 games does the factory overclocked HD 7850 approach the stock GTX 660’s performance. We would not be surprised to see the EVGA GTX 660 Ti Superclocked run away from the stock HD 7870 and also generally outclass the factory overclocked HD 7970 editions which are in a higher price bracket. Let’s head for our conclusion.
