Motorola Shadow Spotted in the wild, get your 4”+ Screen phone on Verizon!
After seeing the image for this phone, I’m sure that we all collectively agree that this is going to be the sexiest device of this summer. Codnamed “The Shadow”, this device from Motorola is rumored to be carrying some impressive specs. Here’s a list of the very impressive rumored specs:
- 4.1" TFT WVGA screen
- Texas Instruments OMAP 3630 45nm Processor clocked at 720 MHz
- Android 2.2 by launch possible, otherwise Android 2.1 with Moto BLUR
- 8 MP camera
- 720p recording
- 1080p output via HDMI port
- ~9mm thick (For reference, iPhone 3GS is 12.3mm)
- Releasing in July

Pictured on this manual is the Android 2.1 with Moto BLUR. But according to the poster on HowardForums, this handset should have full Adobe Flash 10.1 support by launch. This leads me to believe that since Google requires Android 2.2 as the minimum requirement for Adobe Flash 10.1 on smartphones, this handset will ship with Android 2.2 “Froyo”.
For anybody who wants to know about the performance watch the video below which compares the TI OMAP 3430 CPU (underclocked to 550 MHz) that is used in the Motorola DROID vs the TI OMAP 3630 CPU (720 MHz). The TI OMAP 3630 uses a faster clocked GPU that helps it achieve 80% better performance on the graphics benchmark.
Motorola shadow support GSM??
For now it is Verizon CDMA. But the underlying hardware can be made to work on GSM like the Droid has a GSM counterpart called the Milestone. I would expect Motorola to make a GSM version of the Shadow for sale in the rest of the world.

I’ve already had to correct BoyGeniusReport.com on their statement that the 720p video recording capability is due to the SGX530 GPU… which as we both know has everything to do with 2D and 3D application graphics processing, not video recording. You would hope that a website that specializes in mobile device news would have a basic understanding of such things, but I guess not.
The current Droid has an SGX530 as well, but the 45 nm feature scale of the Shadow could allow that SGX530 to be nearly doubled in clock speed. Addition of LPDDR2 memory would remove the limiting factor that memory bandwidth plays on the GPU in the current Droid, producing the 80% increase in performance in the Shadow that you reference.

Correction, you made no such claim to the 80% performance increase in the Shadow; I don’t mean to put words in your mouth.
We both know that mobile manufacturers often downclock their SoCs for better battery performance, as demonstrated by the Droid. But you make an excellent point at demonstrating the capability in the SoC.
